Objective: The present pilot study aimed to comparatively evaluate the quality of the First Aid Program in Mental Health Literacy in the mental health of recent nursing graduates. Method: A pre-experimental design was used, termed case study with a single-group post-test. The program lasted two days (14 hours). The study sample consisted of 16 recent nursing graduates, with a mean age of 21.86 years (SD = 0.54). The Questionnaire for Assessment of Mental Health Literacy was used as an instrument of data collection, applied to depression, schizophrenia, and alcohol abuse. In terms of data analysis, we used summary statistics, Cochran's Q test, and Friedman test, and as measures of effect size ℜ and W, associated with the appropriate test. Results: At the end of the intervention, high and differentiated levels of mental health literacy were observed in all its components, regarding depression, schizophrenia, and alcohol use, specifically in terms of recognition of problems. Comparatively, the intention to request help differed according to the problem described in the vignettes (p < 0.05), being higher in depression (81.3%) compared to alcohol abuse (56.3%) and schizophrenia (37.5%). The same result was obtained for confidence in first aid (p < 0.05), and the participants felt more confident in cases of depression and alcohol abuse. Conclusions: Despite the limitations resulting from the type of design used, namely the absence of a control group and the absence of previous observation, the results show that at the end of the program the participants have high confidence to act for their mental health and of those who are close to them.
