Background: The assessment of resilience in oncological contexts is essential, yet there is a lack of specific instruments for the Portuguese population. Objective: To translate and validate the shortened version of the Resilience Scale Specific for Cancer (RS-SC-10) for the Portuguese population. Method: The sample consisted of 120 participants, aged between 26 and 84 years, from a hospital in the Autonomous Region of the Azores. The protocol included the RS-SC-10, the shortened version of the Positive and Negative Affect Scale (PANAS-VRP), the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), and the Subjective Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS). Results: Confirmatory factor analysis showed internal consistency and moderate reliability of the ER-EC-10. After covariance adjustments, the model demonstrated a good fit in both dimensions. Significant positive correlations were observed with the Positive Affect of PANAS-VRP and SWLS, and negative correlations with Negative Affect and HADS. Conclusions: The Portuguese ER-EC-10 proved to be a valid and reliable instrument for assessing resilience in patients in Portugal, offering a sensitive and specific assessment of the challenges individuals face in cancer diagnosis and treatment. This study underscores the importance of culturally adapted tools for psychological assessment in health contexts.Downloads
